Bardon Secret Grotto
Landscape Queensland, Construction Excellence Awards
2024 Queensland Residential Landscape Construction of the Year
“The concept is that as one walks in from the street and enters a lush landscape there is the surprise of a grotto containing an architecturally beautiful structure and hidden from the rest of the world – almost like a secret garden” – our clients vision.
Covering 800 square metres, it’s totally covered with lush sub tropical vegetation, accessed through meandering pathways that lead to a grotto.
Walls made from oversized boulders dictate the shape of several trickling waterfalls culminating in a weeping stone-clad wall dripping with ivy and surrounded with a fernery.
An architecturally-designed glass studio sits at the base of this wall, entered only by perfectly shaped concrete lily pads. The pond is home to several species of fish and prolific flowering water lilies and water plants.
To the outside world, it presents as a deeply-planted garden – to those fortunate to venture inside, it is a secluded haven.
